Statement of Intent:
My chosen theme for my GCSE photography will be changing landscapes and I am going to show it by going many different places around England.I will specifically be focusing on the rural areas as I believe they will be the kinds of pictures to give me the marks I need for my specific grade. I have chosen this theme as this is a very big theme and work surrounding it is quite enormous to explore but in the end I get to specialise my skills and finer them to the better quality in a different class to most people and what I have learnt through out the photography course.
For my initial research in order to produce a unique, professional final piece, I intend to carry out my research differently in a variety like section, for example by visiting different Museums and art galleries and also researching different photographers on the internet for example photographers such as Glyn Davies and many more that are linked to Anglesey and changing landscape.I will also be focusing myself on looking at different varieties of changing in landscape themes and the main one I would like to focus specifically on the theme of seasons and time change in landscapes, I believe that this would be the most effective for me especially since I really admire the change in seasons and colour,so in advance I will look at photographers who have also mainly focused on seasons in their photography journey and I could also follow in their shadow to see if I can perfect my work like their work and then I can bring out mine own ideas which is what is going to make me stand out.
My main coursework or chosen theme was changing landscapes however the theme that I specifically chose to look at in this project is seasons, I chose it without hesitation because I believe not many students of the past have done anything like seasons and I'm quite sure it will be making me reach my effective marks and the highest grades possible.
To show progress through out my work I hope to start researching a few images about seasons and do the 5C's on them to effectively get an idea on what I might do in the future of this project, I then plan to go out sometimes and take pictures which are linked somewhat to any season whether I'm in the wrong season or not, for example If I am in the season of spring but I want to take an autumn picture if I used my mental effectively I would think about taking pictures of a rainy day and quite dark outside with gray theme'd landscape.I will then refine my images and develop them in any possible way to further excess my idea of my main concept "seasons" and possibly I could gain more ideas from them and plan again to go out sometime to take pictures, repeating that same cycle but with a hint of variety inside I could perfectly gain grades to exceed my target and show the progress.I could also preform SIRT's and any EBI's I get, I will improve myself by reaching that task at the same time learning what I have done wrong.
I would like to experiment by using a wide range of techniques on my camera but mainly the "landscape" setting which I believe has its own amazing parts and specific harmonisation of the settings for example ISO 6400, White balance Cloudy , Aperture 9.6 , Manual 1/200 etc. I can also try to experiment with different lens as they extend and the effects they provide would be highly effective as I am looking changing in landscapes therefore I would need lens that focus on the entire landscapes.Something I would also like to achieve is by using a setting which is quite uncommon for the cameras I use but maybe I could try somehow to use it , I would like to take pictures of a waterfall or a stream by using the polarisation filter as I believe this is the sort of photography that photographers are commonly doing in the 21 century. It has also been recommended as the best setting to use in photography and therefore I would like also experiment on Polarisation filter.
In doing this project, I want to learn more about the theme of "seasons" in changing in landscapes , I also intend to carry out a variety of research towards photographers and art galleries. In the end I hope to specialise and finalise the important skills I have learnt through this coursework and successfully add them on to my final gallery.
I see my final format being a gallery of the amazing images I have taken and also the images being refined on Photoshop, and present in a manner of excellence to reach the final important grade I hope and require.

My Inspiration:
Compostition:
For my inspiration I have decided to use this picture as it has the theme of landscapes and seascapes. This image was take by Kieran Hayes. In this picture you can tell that the rule of thirds was used at the back side of the picture and also the rocks at the front as it is the first thing that catches my eyes. It also feels like the mountains at the back were used as framing for the image as it lines up with the horizon and sky. The photographer took this picture at sunset usually during the after noon of the day. Kieran has used shutter speed, I would guess around 1/2 maybe even 1/10, as it slows down everything in the picture for example the river, making it look crystal clear and smokey. The effect of this is that it attracts the human eye and make its link with the rest of the picture. there is a contrast from the the river to the sky because it makes it look like a mirror yet it feels different with the colour and style. The river also has a vanishing point when it reaches the rocks which makes it look even more foggy. Finally I believe the photographer has used a tripod because the movement of the camera has to be still to capture it in that shutter speed.
Content:
In the image you can see the horizon setting off, rocks on shore, river leading to the ocean and mountains creating a path for the river. you can see the colours, green, blue, orange, yellow, brown, mixed hot and cold colours. The river is crystal clear and it rubs on the rocks like a fog which makes the image authentic and quite intriguing to the eye.
Context:
I believe this image was takme to show how beautiful nature and mainly landscapes are. It has a lot of meaning towards it as if true emotion was put towards this image. I believe this image was taken somewhere in california because of the rocks and horizon etc. In my opinion I believe that the meaning behind this image is to show the wonder of landscapes and amazing it looks just from the picture itself. This was publiched by Kieran Hayes to show his work in landscapes and horizon's, this photo was taken at modern day time I would be guessing around past 2010 because of the technology presented by the photographer.
Connection:
This connects to my work because its about landscapes and also its got the beach and horizon in it, therefore it connects with my formby work. This is because the horizon is just like formby, the setting, the day and etc.
Comment:
I really like this image because it has a lot of things you can talk about and the it really shows the nature of landscapes and it give me a peaceful mind and calm as I also think that is the true meaning behind this image, all the contrast and background really gives in the meaning.
First Image - 5C's -Glyn Davies: 'Unfamilia
Familiarity' West Anglesey
Content:
In this Image I see a cloudy gray dark blue sky mainly to middle and the left whereas to the right. I can see a orange yellow like color possibly the sun setting and the night rising which I believe is a really good contrast, and also the rock in the middle is in between also shows a very quite calm and peaceful image. The sea looks like it hit the rock quite slow and yet it feels like its just slowly and calmly passing through it. I can also see a few mountains in the background which seem to be quite dark unlike the rock at the front which has effectively caught my eye so I have a hypothesis that the photographer edited the image in background and darkened the hill rocks to make them less noticeable and attract more attention to the one in the middle. The image looks quite new and recent with the colors and the editing. This image I believe was taken somewhere in Anglesey near the beach which is quite beautiful in my opinion. The image is mainly just a structure with no one in the picture and its effective in my opinion because it links perfectly with my project "Changing in landscapes".
Connection:
The theme of this image I believe is landscapes or sea effect. This links to my theme because they are both mainly focusing on landscapes and structure but also color.I also think this has a hint of "seasons" in with the clouds being grey and dark and contrast the orange and yellow which I think is a contrast from winter to spring or it could be from summer to autumn which is the content of the image and I would like to focus on that as well. The image I believe was taken on a windy evening time with the sun setting at one side and the night rising at the other with a perfect white balance ratio which gave a pretty interesting effect towards it.
Composition:
I believe the focus point of this image is a birds eye view because I believe it to be too far off from a worms eye view or a normal view. The lighting is quite soft in my opinion and on the right side it creates a sense of radiant from the sun setting but you cant see it the color does give a radiant vibe, in contrast to the gray cloudy side which creates a sense of mystery yet quite a soft mystery.I believe they have used rule of thirds as if you imagine the lines that apply to it you can easily determine the effect of it being used.My eye was instantly drawn to the rock in the center ground and I believe the photographer has achieved this by editing parts of the image to mainly focus on that rock, for example increasing the brightness on the rock and decreasing it on the small hills in the background. The depth of field is heavily deep in my opinion because to be able to capture all that in one go creates a sense of big yet softness as well which what I hope to achieve in the future. I'm quite this photographer has used a tripod as the image looks to clear and centered to being taken on hand, they could have possibly edited as well to make it look that way however I am only hypothesizing. There is a interesting background and I am talking about the upper area of the background like clouds and the contrast as well which is what made this image an image for her or him to show.
Comment:
I really like the contrast at the top of image and the instant focus on the rock to middle bottom which a creates a soft structure wise landscape photo, the main strength in my opinion is the settings on the camera she/he used, the possible editing and the perfect timing of the image because I am sure she/he has planned this out but I believe they haven't planned to take such an amazing image therefore it was great timing. What I don't like about the image that they could have added more to the orange/yellow like color to balance it out in editing but they if they weren't editing then therefore they had no power or control over that which is perfectly fine, mostly I like this image quite a lot and there isn't anything bad I could talk about. I think there is a meaning to this image and it shows quite perfectly with both sides of the color in the clouds and the rock in the middle being the friends of both sides but always stopping them in bad times I believe it reflects how humans are and feel about what they do and who they trust, for example the cloudy dark area could be the bully but who is also your friend and the victim who is also your friend is the light area and your the friend in the middle who stops the problem all the time, the rock.
Context:
This image was taken Glyn Davies while she was in Anglesey taking her images, the time period it was taken I believe is somewhat sun set, evening time and that has influenced the image heavily as this person arrived at the perfect time period.
Second Image - 5C's - Adam Burton
Context:
This image was taken by a photographer named Adam Burton who specializes in Anglesey images and landscapes as well. The image was taken in Anglesey North Wales and I believe the image was taken during recent times due to style of the photo. I believe this image was taken was to show the amazing and beautiful landscape of Anglesey and fascinating it looks. The meaning behind this image is to show the vast beauty and elevation of light house to the sea to the mountains. The image was published on Adam Burton website as also he has many more photos that link to landscapes, He is known on his website as the "One of the best UK photographers in history." , He wasn't just a photographer he was many things at the same time as well for example a tuition-er and you can book to to have tuition's with him on his website to Anglesey and many more places.
Content:
In the image I can see many things such as the light house at the top of the hill to the beach and the sea which looks fake because of how too perfect it looks, I can also see a mountain in the background while it also looks quite foggy as if it was purposely made to be blurred so you can focus on the light house more. You can see its quite cloudy as well but the sun is also setting which is reflecting on the clouds to the right however you can see contrast of the clouds to the right with being quite dark and mystifying. The image is very colorful and that thoroughly brings out the textures of the image which also contrast to urban areas which I was what I really like about nature landscapes.
Composition:
The photographer uses rule of thirds to get everything into the image, all in one by imagining the lines you can tell he used rule of thirds. He used a birds eye view I believe to catch everything into the picture from the lighthouse to also visualizing the sea on his picture to the mountains in the background. The lighting is quite soft and intriguing in a sense of manner and it kind of attracts me in a polite way instead of a heavy way which I believe is the effect of this image. My eyes were immediately drawn to the rocks in front. The composition in this image fits exactly to the theme however I believe that the image could be deepened more especially with colours.
Connection:
This picture connects with my project because it shows a variety of landscape setting such as the ocean and the background mountain and the hills at the front. This is important because it shows a lot of colours and vibrancy to the image, it links to my work because I am going to be focusing on landscapes and especially mountains, clouds and the sky. This image link to what I could in this project because it gives me ideas of how I can take my images and how I can also refine them in a more similar yet different way. In the end I believe this image has given me ideas of what kind of images I could and where exactly I could do it since I couldn't make it to Anglesy this image still has had an impact on me and given me techniques as well in which the image could be more refined
Comment:
I overall like this image because it has a strong meaning to it and it gives a nice colour, a warm and soft colour. The focus towards the lighthouse also gives a nice touch to it because it makes me think that the image isn't fully rural and all just nature but it also shows a human side towards it. However what I don't like about the image is that I feel as if the image is too much detailed and I think you can make it better by removing the rocks on the ocean through the use of Photoshop. I feel that it is important that this image is given criticism because it gives the photographers areas in he can focus in and also areas in which I can avoid.
My time at the Peak District
Mountain Images:
My best Image:I believe this is my best image for mountains because it shows the background mountains but in a foggy style and you can clearly see the sign and I think it looks very creative.
|
My worst Image:I believe this is my worst image for mountains because it doesn't really have meaning towards it, it feels simple and rushed.
|
Water Images:
Waterfall
Lake
Best Image:I believe this is my best image for water images in the peak district as you can see a very perfect rule of thirds that connects the trees, to the mountain, to the river, to the sky that has quite the lightning on the image itself. The fog fusing with the lightning creates a very bright yet distant light .
|
Worst Image:I believe this to be my worst image in water images at the peak district because the lighting has ruined the entire image and its too foggy to the see anything at all.
|
Tree's:
Best Image:This is my best image in trees at the peak district because not only does the tree have a nice colour but also the clouds in the background kind of links with the the colour of the tree which makes the picture look even better.
|
Worst Image:This is my worst image in trees at the peak district because the window got in with the picture and it makes the image look very blurry.

Trees:
Best ImageI believe that this would be my best image because it just looks amazing, the sun light on the tree giving off shadow, the empty blue sky and the bushes of the trees, it gives off a nice vibe.It feels very relaxing and worth the image taken. The tree in sync with the sun its like it purposely lined up.
|
Worst ImageI really dislike this image because its full of tress and its quite blurry and its like its full of unnecessary things, the brightness wasn't good at all either.
|
Beach:
Best Image:I really like this image from Formby because it has an amazing rule of thirds and the connection with the clouds and the ocean is very colourful, and also the mountains and the vast blue sky makes the image look creative and very appealing in the content of landscape.
|
Worst Image:This image is not as good as my best image in beaches in Formby but I don't its a bad image however overall with all the images I have taken in beaches I feel as if this is the worst one because of the zoom and the out of focus is what makes this image bad.
|
Close up's:
Best Images:I believe that this is my best image for close up's in Formby because it really blurs the background and makes the plant look sharp and focused, quite a flamboyant picture.
|
Worst Image:I believe that this is my worst close up image because it is quite focused but the difference in the depth of field is not that much because the background isn't as blurred.
|
Clouds:
Best ImageI believe that this is my best image for clouds in Formby because the rule of thirds makes the image look more panoramic and the lighting is just perfect.
|
Worst ImageOthers might question why this image is my worst photo, my only reason for that is because its background where the clouds are, is blurred out.
|
Mountain:
Best ImageThis is my best image because it just looks amazing, the rule of thirds , the mountain in contrast with the clear blue sea like sky, the lighting that fits with it. Just amazing
|
Worst ImageIn my opinion I believe that this is my worst image because in general their isn't much "mountain" and it doesn't really fit in the category.

Linking paragraph
Near the end of July 2019, I went to Formby to take pictures of rural landscapes such as the vast trees, clouds, the beach and more. I was able to take the pictures during mid day where the sun was visible and perfect in its place and for me as well, this is because I got the chance to take pictures of beautiful areas and the beach was probably on of my best so far. I was also able to use the camera settings to my advantage and master their skills. What I have learned at Formby was that I had to constantly take pictures everywhere as I only had one day there and one chance at this perfect opportunity and while I was there I was quite arrogant, this led me to take not as much as I could have however I am glad that as the trip continued I managed to forget my pride and arrogance and take as much as I can.
When I went to Manchester Salford in the summer, you could easily tell the difference between both places and not just the urban area but the weather as well. The sky wasn't as good as Formby however it led up to its expectations thanks to the sun.It was quite cloudy and it was hard to take images in that lightning therefore I changed my white balance to cloudy and I continued my expedition. One thing I liked about being in Manchester, Salford I managed to take a lot of pictures that were both birds eye view and worms eye view, this was good for me because I took such as outstanding pictures such as being in cloud 23 and taking such high pictures.

My journey at Manchester Salford
My inspiration:
Context:
This image was taken by a photographer called Len Grant who specializeds in changing in landscapes especially in Manchester. This following image was taken to show the rebuilding of Manchester after the bombings. He took a series of images during his time in Manchester, many in popular places and many in areas where you wouldn't notice. This is showing how the people of Manchester are still wanting to repair more in their city and make it much better than it used to be. This is important because it shows the true colours of this image and how it could make the viewers feel.
Content:
In this image you can see a builder who is working too build back what was destroyed by the bomb, the builder is quite high on the building making it look like he is determined to bring back what was taken from him. The main reason why this image was taken in my opinion is I feel that this image has two meanings, the first meaning is that no matter what you destroy or break in Manchester it will always be built and maybe even better than it used to be.The second meaning is that it represents the logo of Manchester which is the bee, which means to continue to work and build it's hive like the people in Manchester.
Compostition:
In this image it looks like Len has used the rule of thirds in the middle where the builder is and the sky. The leading lines are quite intresting to me because it feels as if their is path right in front of me from this image. In the image it also shows a contrast between a small buidling near the builder to a medium building behind it, to a even bigger building behind it. He has used large depth of field as you can see everything in the image clearly and efficently. I am guessing that this is a birds eye view or Len was in a high building at that moment and was doing a worms eye view to the builder.
Comment:
I quite like this image because it shows the determination and resilience of the people in Manchester and no matter what you destroy in that place, they will always build it back up again better than it used to be. And it just shows how much the people care about their city and how much they want to nurture it. It makes me feel proud and quite prideful about it. I can use this to inspire me because it tells me what kind of images I could take. Len Grant has taken this picture to show a sense of industry and construction since we can see that its about new beginnings for Manchester after the tragic incident. Since the incident they have been constantly working on construction so what I can do is compare both modern Manchester and old Manchester to see how much they have changed. He is also showing the true meaning of the people in Manchester.
Connection:
This image links with my work heavily as it links with my theme of changing in landscape and also the theme of Manchester, this image is gonna give me ideas about old buildings in contrast to new buildings and its gonna show me the determination it took to build them. This heavily connects with what I am going to take for my visit in Manchester Salford and what kind of theme I could pick and the true meaning behind my theme and how it could also affect the viewers. I hope to create an image just like this or even better if I can then I rework it into my own image with my own style if possible.
Lights and lamps (MyTheme)
Cloud 23:
Best ImageThe is my best image because the rule of thirds in this image is what make's it so distinct and its as if the image is taking you there.
|
Worst ImageThis is my worst image because the image is distorted and the camera isn't fixed straight but instead its bent and not focusing on anything in general.

The difference between the before and final image is phenomenal in my opinion, in the before image it does look nice with the rule of thirds applied and the colour as well, because it goes from yellow sand to the vast blue ocean and the empty ocean sky, for me to get that higher grade I thought of linking it to urban areas, showing a contrast from rural and making it geometric at the same time giving off a nice emotional vibe.

Mock Exam Evaluation 12/12/19 :
The theme for this project is Changing in landscape" and I believe this project is my best project so far, I think that this project was the most interesting and most exciting, this is because the images I have taken were the best so far and my Photoshop as well. When I started this project I looked at a few ideas that were given to me on what kind of images landscape images are and how they are presented and also Photo-shopped in the end.
At the beginning of my journey I went to to take landscape images at the peak district as I believed that I could take the most amazing pictures there, the problem was however is that the weather was awful during that time and it was very cloudy and foggy, ruining nearly all my images however I learnt to change the white balance and make it clearer and also the ISO which brighten the my images more once taken, this is important because it made me learn to plan ahead and check everything before I reach where I want to be, this is also important as well because it gives me a starting point in my journey, a starting point to improve from. I wasn't happy with my final outcome in the peak district but this did give me an area to learn from.
Therefore I decided to go to a place where the weather was perfect and I could also take images I couldn't at the peak district. I went to Formby, the weather was perfect it was sunny and clear, the place itself was the exact thing I needed to achieve my target and beyond. While visiting Formby I learned to use many techniques from white balance to shutter speed to birds eye view and worms eye view and many more. It is important that I use different techniques as it expanded my differentiation of images and I made sure that they were not all the same. I however did encounter some problems while visiting Formby, I was very arrogant and didn't take as much pictures as I should have and if I did I could have chosen a variety of images and learn to deepen them ever more. My main theme at Formby was Trees, this is because the area had a variety of trees in different shapes, areas, even colours and I was happy with my final outcome at Formby
After visiting both the peak district and Formby, we decided to go to a more urban area to show contrast, we visited Manchester Salford and took many images, the weather at Manchester Salford was cloudy however it was still bright and I am sure it was the perfect weather for the occasion. Our first visit was cloud 23 we took many high landscape images, I feel that this was worth the visit as I could easily show the contrast between urban and rural. My main theme at Manchester Salford was lamps, I chose this because I wanted to be different and unique in a certain variety and not like others, I am happy I chose this theme because it gave me a lot of ideas on how I could Photoshop it and develop it, the techniques I used in Manchester Salford were mainly changing white balance to cloudy and Birds eye view this is because I wanted to focus on the buildings and my theme lamps.
Before I got on to my Photoshop to develop my photos I had to look at the general theme in Photoshop and what I was going to do, therefore I did my research and I chose Legan Rooster who was making images on geometric shapes and reflections, I chose this as my general theme for Photoshop because I found it very interesting and quite unique as well, it also gave me ideas on how I could do geometric shapes and reflections in my own way. I started my journey in Photoshop by looking at many tutorials and how I could use their idea in my images and possible change a few things here and there.
My first Photoshop image was a success in my opinion and I knew that I was ready to make more and work on the theme in depth, I continued to Photoshop images some were experiments that never worked and some were exactly the way I pictured or much better. As I continued to deepen my Images I learned many techniques that I would use on many images and would find out which worked and which was not right. After my shape images I decided to work on reflections and looking at the outcome of all the image I can assure you that my journey in Photoshop took a big step and I am very happy with both my shapes and reflection outcomes.
Now the outcomes of my Photoshop images were great and just what I pictured however I continuously would think, How could I deepen my work more and make it my own style and what would be the best way for me to achieve high grades. I finally thought of something that was going to be hard but worth it in the end.
I decided to do 3D in Photoshop and mix it in with shapes and reflections. This is exactly what I had to do to differentiate myself and work my way to the top. Firstly I looked at a few tutorials on how I could do this and it was quite hard for my first 3D image but it was worth it, as for my second image I decided to do it myself without any tutorials helping me and with everything that I have learned I made something that is probably my best image ever so far. I learned so many new techniques in Photoshop and I'm ready to make it much more. I am eccentric with my work ethic and everything I have done so far from the beginning of my journey till the end it was hard but it was the greatest thing I could offer.
From this project I have learnt new techniques and I have gained a better understanding of the standard that I am trying to achieve and what I need to do in order to reach that standard with this in mind I am prepared for the photography exam the finally journey.
